I've always loved to work with my hands and create.  Crafts, painting, drawing, sewing, knitting, crocheting...the list goes on and on.  About 6 years ago, I was visiting a friend in Cape Cod and found myself in this little bead shop.  I knew I was in serious trouble the second I set foot in that store.  I started picking up and feeling all of the different beads.  The next thing you know, I purchased all kinds of things and went on my way.  Those beads sat in my dresser drawer for years before I did anything with them. 

I worked in New York City on and off for 15 years until January of 2008 and throughout that time, I saw all kinds of fashions come and go.  The one thing I've always loved?  Looking at jewelry.  From the displays in the high-end designer stores to the little carts on the street in the Village and throughout Manhattan.  I was always attracted to the colors and the creativity of others.  Attracted, but I would often find things I thought could be done differently.  I would often purchase something and "tweak" it to my own liking.

One day, I decided to play with that package of beads I had in my dresser drawer.  Out of that came some pretty lackluster ideas, but  I would take them apart and re-create them.  As time went on, I started adding some new beads to play with.  Then findings and clasps.  Quickly, my ideas started to take on a new look and I became increasingly pleased with them.  They weren't quite up to snuff, though.

I looked at the jewelry I had purchased over the years (and I mean there was TONS of it!) and I studied how things were put together and I reflected on the things I didn't necessarily like about them.  It usually came back to the way something was constructed.  It didn't take me long to realize that quality construction and "Kim proofing" my pieces would be something that was of paramount importance to me when designing a piece.  What good is that really amazing necklace if all of the beads are flying around on the floor?!!  (We've all been there!)
